Problem solving is at the core of a Realtor’s business life…and we needed to “climb high” for this one!
I promised my client I would deliver the best marketing plan and generate the most exposure for her home in order to get the highest price the market would bear and in the shortest time possible. I deliver on my promises!
The house is decluttered, the windows are washed, the front door painted. The outside urns are brimming with fresh plantings, the lawn is manicured…oh and yes, the NEW ROOF is installed! The home inspector awards the house a gold star inspection. The stagers “fluff” the house, the flowers are placed and the photographer has filmed evidence of a gorgeous home ready to go to market. Brochures are designed, printed and placed for hordes of buyers to enjoy during their showings.
Today is our Public Open House when I will welcome the buyers and agents to tour the house.
My Open House signs are placed strategically throughout the neighbourhood. I’m at the door ready to open for some early bird buyers who are already lined up behind me.
JUST ONE PROBLEM...THE KEY DOES NOT WORK! Well it does but someone dead bolted the house from inside! AND this is a Row House…so NO ACCESS TO THE BACK DOOR!
SOLUTION: Panic first, then call client who has NO KEY for the deadbolt..they never use it. Panic second. Client drives home, goes through neighbour’s house to THIRD FLOOR BALCONY…scales the railings and jumps to her balcony and enters through her sliding glass doors, descends to main floor and calmly opens front door to her Realtor and by now, very excited buyers who can’t WAIT to take a tour!
MORAL: Always have BOTH deadlock and door handle keys OR cover deadlock button so it can’t be used…or BOTH.
HAPPY ENDING: SOLD IN ONE WEEK AND 8% OVER THE ASKING PRICE! That’s really “the key” to problem solving (thanks to my client/#catburglar!) We made a great team! So, how can I help YOU today!
