Romantic Inspirational Engagement Shoot
Coralie D’Souza, Creative Director and Founder of Bespoke Makeup & Hair, a Toronto-based on-location hair and makeup company loves getting dressed up and throwing parties for her loved ones.
When her best friend declared that she’d found love, Coralie pulled together an inspirational engagement shoot, filled with sweet DIY touches and thoughtful accents, indicative of the couple’s personalities.
From the multi-coloured polyhedrons and himmeli strung across weeping trees, filled with simple wild flowers against a romantic picnic setting at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club with this this real-life couple, Sumit and Komal.
Cultural elements of this couple’s South Asian heritage were included in the choice of deep and vibrant colours, in the flowers, décor and patterned picnic blanket. A hat-tip to their love of travel and adventure – from make-shift tables of suitcases and wooden boats in homage to the yacht club where they had their first date.
The bride-to-be’s hair and makeup pick up the soft pink colours of the calla lilies in her bouquet. She wore two dresses: the first, a tiered lace and tulle skirt with intricate details on the bodice for a romantic feel. The second dress was a beautiful high collar lace cocktail gown. Simple and delicate diamond pieces complemented her halo engagement ring with pavé diamonds on the band.
Invitations, which gave hints of the elegant style of the couple, were blue and pink ink printed on kraft paper, finished with a vintage border. The couple’s names were written in bold and modern calligraphy, and the envelopes lined with blue chevrons were a nod to the couple’s playful side.
The icing on the cake, literal and figurative are the oh-so modern 3D printed images of the couple. We thought that cookies would be a great alternative to traditional desserts (especially with our picnic theme), so our sweet table featured oatmeal chocolate chip cookies in mini picnic baskets. Apple mini pies packaged in miniature pie boxes were the guests’ take-home engagement favours. Completing the sweet table, chocolate cupcakes and refreshing pink lemonade!
This inspirational shoot was as beautiful, fun and romantic as it looks and as the team that bought it together.
