Sellers The Great Debate for Toronto home owners continues. The fight goes on between the Competition Bureau and the Toronto Real Estate Board as to whether brokerages/realtors should be able to disclose publicly how much a home has just sold for.
The issue according to TREB is the invasion of privacy both for the sellers and for the buyers who may not want to have delicate information of their “personal” transactions “out there”! Many Realtors are worried that the buying and selling public will no longer need us. REALLY? Is that the reason consumers hire us these days? Maybe back in the pre or early MLS days, when we etched our contracts onto stone tablets, but in this internet age? C’mon. There are soooo many ways for consumers to get their hands on Sold prices today, when there just ARE no secrets anymore ….#Realtorleaks !
And if we think that hoarding this info is the driving force for hiring an agent, this kind of thinking may just well put us out of business in the not-too-distant future!
In my view, our value is in our expertise in navigating carefully and successfully through some of the very turbulent waters that can cause emotional and financial tsunamis for our clients. They don’t want to make mistakes in buying OR in selling the biggest assets of their lives.
